This thread is going to showcase the development of Lieutenant Michael Casatella, currently leading the Willowfield Detective Bureau of the Los Santos Sheriff's Department.

After a relatively short spell within the San Fierro Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff I, Michael was urged to pursue a more lucrative career opportunity within his city as his girlfriend was going through labor. He was contemplating whether his modest salary would be enough to raise a child in San Fierro or whether he was about to seek a second job to support his child. Contrary to belief, a 29 year old Casatella risked it all and requested a transfer to the Los Santos Sheriff's Department without any prior discussion with his pregnant girlfriend.

She wasn't ready to move to a different city... Until she heard that Michael would be earning more than double his current salary. Content with the nuances of the relocation, his partner eagerly started going through apartments available for lease within the Commerce district of Los Santos. After his transfer was approved and sealed, Michael and his soon to be fiancé moved in a two bedroom apartment complex right across City Hall.

Despite being cautious of oversharing, Michael did inform his fiancé about his desire to becoming a detective within LSSD's Major Crimes Bureau and made it clear that in order for their upcoming family to survive, he will have to prioritize his occupation, whether that would potentially damage their relationship in the future.

Major Crimes Bureau

They say you should be careful of what you wish for and that stereotypical saying couldn't be more accurate for Michael's forseeable future operating as a detective in LSSD's Major Crimes Bureau. Upon a promising introduction to the entire squad and understanding their goals moving forward, detective Casatella believed he was in the right place at the right time. However, internal disputes damaged the work environment as his fellow detectives started handing in resignations one by one. Michael realized that his department was essentially breaking itself down however he was already committed to building a career and supporting his family.

His detective mentor Camila Alvarez temporarily stepped down as she went into an indefinite unpaid leave, meaning that the entire existence of that unit was at risk. Luckily for Casatella, Captain Leonard Champagne remained involved within MCB's operations and was actively guiding the inexperienced detective throughout his investigations.

His brief involvement in the Serbian Mafia casefile was cut short as the entire investigation was suspended by the Executive Staff and this lead to Casatella being assigned to an entirely different venue, that being Operaction ORCA.

Operation ORCA

Due to the lack of manpower within the unit, detective Casatella was given a rather impossible task to carry out. He was the assigned detective of an organized crime casefile targeting The Bellantonio Crime Family however he technically had no other detectives to rely on as the bureau was at its all time low. The only real assistance he received was from regular deputies and the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) when situations inevitably escalated.

The initial goal was to disrupt the hierarchy of the crime family by outlining the majority of their rackets, damaging the organization bad enough that it leads to them tearing it down themselves. Casatella decided to make the long play as he primarily invested his time in research and conducting coherent surveillance in Downtown Los Santos.

After weeks of submitting supplemental intelligence reports in the logs of the case package, he stumbled upon what was soon to be the most valuable intel that he collected during his entire investigation. A midnight massacre between Bellantonio associates and upper echelon members and individuals from the infamous Warlocks Motorcycle Club was captured on Casatella's CCTV footage.

Michael was finally given enough grounds on pursuing the mob through warrants and further escalating his suspicions to evidence packed conclusions as he now had more than enough reasons to hunt down the Bellantonio mob.

Bulletproof

Despite being obliged to assist his fellow deputies whenever units were called upon, detective Casatella was advised by Captain Champagne to maintain his anonymity for as long as possible as it would be essential for his work on the casefile. However, as he was conducting one of his regular surveillance patrols, he overheard his radio stating that there was an active shootout outside of Downtown Royalty Lounge, a known Bellantonio establishment on Sunset Avenue.

Without having any proper equipment other than a Smith & Wesson M&P9 pistol, he spearheaded his unmarked black Tahoma towards the crime scene. Oblivious to the orders of Sergeant Tejero, Michael stormed in the parking lot with nothing but a pistol in his hands, confident that the suspects were members of the Bellantonio mob.

The orders of his Sergeant were simple: wait for SWAT to arrive and storm the place in once everyone's ready... But Michael's ego took the better of him. He casually walked with his firearm aimed forwards, no kevlar vest covering his vulnerable body... An entire magazine later, detective Casatella managed to eliminate both suspects. The adrenaline was holding him up as he suffered a graze to the neck caused by the Remington spread of the perpetrator.

After a short dispute between himself and Sergeant Tejero, Michael decided to storm out of the crime scene, contrary to protocol and regulations set by the Sheriff's Department. He was later on the verge of being suspended however Captain Champagne and his Lead Detective Alvarez managed to convince the Executive Staff of keeping Casatella on board.

Family Matters

After barely surviving and avoiding making his fiancé a widow, the Casatella household dynamic only grew worse. She understood the necessary sacrifices in terms of developing within his line of work however it shouldn't come with the risk of raising their child on her own. Michael managed to continiously buy himself enough time and blur his fiancé's view on their forseeable future.

Mistakes were bound to happen and this isn't something that she wasn't verbally prepared for... Once reality strikes, all preparation flies out the window as the expected arrives out of nowhere. All the talking prior to moving to Los Santos and the risks that comes by working as a detective equals to nothing once reality strikes.

A clear warning was made, things will inevitably go South and his family will have to temporarily relocate outside of Los Santos once Michael's investigation hits a point of no return. As soon as his suspicions of Dante Muscato, a Bellantonio associate, being the terrorist of Pershing Square were confirmed, Michael knew that his family had to move.

Months prior to moving out, he purchased a Honda Accord Wagon which is legally owned by one of his hometown friends. His paranoia got the better of him as he assumed that any organized crime group he goes after is going to have their own moles within the ranks of either the Police Department or the Sheriff's Department. He utilized the vehicle by loading up his fiancé's and his son's belongings as he made his way to Angel Pine, leaving them in a hostel for a fortnight.

Protect your assets

Casatella had a lot on his plate and maintaining the safety of Richard Cicero, Bellantonio associate turned informant, was far more important to the greater good of the city than his own personal life. Upon overhearing a questionable dialog between Carmen Romano, Bellantonio associate, and what was believed to be Frank Baldi, alleged boss of the Bellantonio mob, Michael had to make a decision on whether he was going to cash in on the gathered intel or risk the life of his informant. He cashed in.

Deputies were urgently called in to assist Michael into arresting Carmen Romano in order to prevent the possible assassination of MCB's finest asset. Michael DeRosa, another Bellantonio associate, was also taken in custody as he was one of the members captured on surveillance being part of the shootout between the mob and the Warlocks.

Infamous mob lawyer Nathan Cinaglia was able to successfully tackle Romano's conspiracy to murder charges and was only sentenced to the possession of an illegal firearm. Despite not putting Romano in bars for longer than anticipated, Michael managed to safe Richard Cicero, who at the time was hiding out in Angel Pine's trailer park awaiting witness protection.

One shark down, a hundred more to go

After his fiancé delivered a paragraph long text message to Michael dumping him due to him spending more time hunting down criminals than parenting his own child, he had no other option but to dedicate the remainder of his life into fighting organized crime for the greater good of Los Santos and his own ego.

Despite spearheading the investigation of the Pershing Square bomb planter himself and capturing him alongside the assistance of the Special Enforcement Bureau, Casatella wanted to keep on going however the investigation into the Bellantonio mob was abruptly suspended as the Executive Staff believed they have already achieved their initial goals.

Several other Bellantonio members were arrested during the six month long investigation.

Just when I thought I was out...

Casatella's work did not go unnoticed as he was promoted to a Sergeant himself throughout the investigation.

Due to the workload experienced, he was advised by Captain Champagne to submit paid leave in order to stabilize his family relations and also take a break from his intense way of working investigations.

Michael returned in March 2026 and was promoted to Lieutenant Detective shortly after. He has temporarily abandoned his Dillimore Headquarters as he is currently leading the Willowfield Detective Bureau.
